Yezidis are a minority group in the Middle East and have been persecuted at many junctures in time because of their uniqueness and for other reasons discussed in the Debunking Superstitions and Myths section. For these reasons, Yezidi elders generally wear the scarf or hijab in order to blend in and not be singled out, even though they are not required to do so by their religion.
In other parts of the world where Yezidis are able to live in safety, Yezidis generally wear the types of clothing worn in that area, as well as the customary Middle Eastern dress of their ancestors.
