Traveled to Check on the Situation in Iraq

Living in unfinished buildings and schools

-the government of Kurdistan is kicking people out of schools and getting them to camps even when the camps are not properly set up.

Whenever it rains the place floods and all the belonging gets wet which was the case with some families at Sharia camp. When people protest and say they refuse to leave the school they are forced and beat up

– A large number of Yezidis are living in unfinished buildings still

Camps- we visited Sharia, Khanke, Bajd/Daraboon, Zakho

Some places were worse than the others and government would stop us from photographing

-no electric or gas heaters (either can’t afford it, tent too flammable, or no electricity)
-chilly weather and feet sinking in mud. Many of them were still wearing sandals they wore as they flee their houses  back in August.
-shower- but don’t have a set of clothes to change into
-not enough mattresses/blankets (6 for family of 14)
-not enough tents (family of 14 in two camps)
-little food or no food received even from government if have been for 3 months. There is no organization helping on regular basis
